The Gift of Being Known: Exploring the ExCEL Program with Eliza Dowdy

Every child is uniquely created by God with distinct strengths, learning styles, and needs. For families navigating a diagnosis or differing educational needs, finding the right school can feel overwhelming. In this next installment of our Partnered for a Purpose parent interview series, Calvary Christian Academy mom and Preschool Director Eliza Dowdy shares how the ExCEL Program has provided both individualized support and unwavering biblical alignment for her daughter.

“One thing that I love about the ExCEL program is that they take the time to observe and really get to know my child,” she shares.

At CCA, students in the ExCEL Program are not defined by a diagnosis or placed into a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, teachers and specialists intentionally learn how each child processes information, how they interact socially, and where their strengths and challenges lie. As this mom beautifully expressed, “She’s just not a name on a paper.”

That intentionality extends beyond the classroom. CCA staff met with Eliza and her husband to create a partnership plan, ensuring that the goals, values, and priorities important to their family were equally important to the school. It’s not simply about providing accommodations; it’s about building a shared vision for the child’s growth academically, socially, and spiritually.

For many families of children with differing needs, educational options can feel limited. Programs offered through county systems may provide services, but they often lack a faith-based foundation. Parents are left to discern whether what their child is being taught aligns with the biblical worldview they are cultivating at home.

At CCA, this mom says she found “the best of both worlds.”

Here, specialized support and biblical truth are not separate conversations. They are seamlessly integrated. The biblical worldview isn’t an add-on. It’s “totally immersed.” Families never have to wonder whether what their child is learning aligns with their faith. It’s woven into the curriculum, the care, and the culture.

The ExCEL Program embodies what Partnered for a Purpose is all about: educators and parents working together with clarity, compassion, and Christ at the center.

For families seeking a school where their child will be known, supported, and spiritually nurtured, no matter their learning needs, CCA’s ExCEL Program stands as a testament to what intentional partnership can accomplish. Because at Calvary Christian Academy, every child is seen, known, and deeply valued.
